Sapele

Sapele is similar to appearance to Mahogany and is often sold as some kind of African Mahogany although its not a true Mahogany, it is related. Harder and heavier than African Mahogany (Khaya) its currently somewhat out of fashion having been used extensively in the 1970's for flush doors, which is a bit of a waste of a timber that can be absolutely gorgeous when used for fine joinery, furniture, guitar necks etc.

Deep reddish brown, though not as deep as Utile, it often exhibits very attractive grain and can be brought to a superb finish.
