Yew

Yew is a softwood that very hard but works very well. Its elastic and strong, lending itself to the legendary English Longbow so well that it has earned itself a place in ensuring the primacy of England throughout so much of European history.

Its poisonous, wear a dust mask as the sawdust can be lethal too. 

Its fairly scarce, usable boards are rare as the larger trees are often hollow and its often protected where found so ours is almost always windfall. 

It works beautifully, can be brought to a most excellent finish and has great character. Yew enjoys a rather magical reputation, steeped in history and associated with paganism, planted in graveyards and can be truly ancient.
