Port Orford Cedar
Otherwise known as Oregon Cypress or Lawson's Cypress this is an absolute gem of a timber. The strongest of all the cedars with excellent strength to weight ratio, finishes beautifully, sands and turns well, takes paint and stains very well and is highly sought after by luthiers for its excellent tonal qualities. Demand far exceeds supply and most available timber goes to Japan where it is highly prized for just about everything to do with wood, from construction to caskets.
Highly resistant to rot and insect attack its one of the best decking timbers available as it doesn't splinter and has a comfortable underfoot feel even when rough sawn.
