Red Balau

Red Balau is a tropical Asian hardwood, part of a vast family of tree in the Shorea genus which includes Meranti, Luan, and Sal. There is a huge variety across the 360 or so trees in this very commercially important genus and we usually have a few examples across the range. 

Our small stock of Red Balau is very heavy with a deep red colour and a most attractive grain. Very hard and dense, its difficult to work - but well worth the effort.
